Year 6 - Blwyddyn Chwech

My name is Miss Lucy Williams and I am the Class Six teacher and Key Stage Two Leader at Tavernspite C. P. School.  I am an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher.  I encourage active, lifelong-learners by providing a rich, broad, balanced and relevant curriculum.

Here, in Class Six, we live by the motto “work hard and play hard”. The children study three exciting topics: World War Two, Africa and Tourism. Within each of these topics the children will be given the opportunity to become ethical informed citizens of Wales and the world, healthy and confident individuals who are ready to fulfil their lives as valued members of society, enterprising creative contributors who are ready to play a part in life and work as well as capable, ambitious learners who are ready to learn throughout their lives.

We are proud of our academic results, but equally so in developing the skills and talents of all our pupils. We aim to make our pupils independent and highly skilled lifelong learners. The children are encouraged to take on additional roles when they enter Class 6. House Captains and Vice Captains are elected, Libriarians play an active role in promoting reading throughout the school and Reading Mentors read to the younger year groups.

Our academic year is punctuated by a number of very valuable and memorable events.  Each year pupils participate in: transition challenge days; a WW2 theme day and visit; an Enterprise Fair event and activities; and a Skomer Island trip.  The pupils of Class Six also undertake a residential stay at a local outward bound centre.  During the stay, the pupils develop their confidence, communication and problem-solving skills by participating in outdoor and adventurous activities – many conducted along Pembrokeshire’s beautiful coastline.

Something that I promote in the pupils is self-belief, a proactive nature and a thirst for learning that will endure.  I encourage the pupils to move forward on their learning journey with a determination to conquer any challenges and adopt a ‘Growth Mindset’ which helps them to be effective, happy and successful people.
